ABOUT OBT SHIPPING 

OBT Shipping was established in 2004 as a Shipping Agency and Logistics/Project Service provider with focus in West Africa. The aim is to provide ship owners and the local shipping environment, with a more reliable service to the steadily growing markets in the region. Today our main coverage area is West- and Central Africa with own offices located in Gambia, Guinea, Sierra-Leone, Liberia and Cameroon.

With our carefully selected and dedicated partners in the region, our representation today also includes full coverage in West and Central Africa via our hub agency in Dubai. In the past few years the company has grown to include over 400 staff in the group and is considered as one of the leading Shipping Agencies in West and Central Africa in the business.

TRAINEE PROGRAM

A traineeship at OBT Shipping is an intensive two-year program consisting of both theoretical and practical training. As a trainee at OBT Shipping you will follow the theoretical training of the Commercial Shipping Program together with other Danish and international Shipping Trainees. Throughout the program you will be in Africa at one of our local offices, with exception of the school periods held in Denmark. The theoretical training consists of a unique combination of classroom sessions and e-learning. You learn about Maritime Economics, Maritime Law, Negotiation Technique, Cultural Awareness and Ship Knowledge. The practical training takes place at one of our offices in West and Central Africa where you will gain extensive knowledge about the areas of shipping; Agency, Operation, Project & Logistics and Chartering.

YOUR COMPETENCES 

We are looking for a candidate who is dynamic and industrious prepared to work in a different culture and environment, in the busy African markets. Furthermore, you take responsibility in your work and you are motivated by a high degree of independency. You hold strong communicative skills which enables you to build collaborative relationships with your colleagues and customers. If you have earlier experiences in developing countries I will be advantage, but it is not a must. In addition to this there are some basic demands you must meet:

• Fluent in verbal and written Danish and English. French would be an advantage but is no requirement.
• As minimum graduated upper secondary education, e.g. HHX or STX.
• You can see yourself making a carrier in the maritime business, in this way we can see your interest and motivation reflected in your work.
• Craftmanship and business acumen.
